Propagate My Hoya With Me | Mealy Bug Infestation
Today, I bring you all along as I chop up my hoya crassipetiolata in hopes of saving it from it's constant mealy bug infestation. After thorough consideration, I've decided to propagate this hoya, clean each individual leaf and reroot it in a different medium (soil) to hopefully bring it new life! Comment down below which plant you're currently propagating! I'd love to know. Hope you enjoy today's video.

    You need a splendid! It’s a hybrid of the Melano and verrucosum. It gives you the best of both parents without the fussiness. I have low humidity and verrucosum grows well for me but that’s not the case for everyone so I guess I got lucky.

    I’d recommend totally washing that plant down considering it’s only nodes. I had a global green that chopped and propagated in water. I washed them WELL. and mealys STILL came back. It was insane. I’d definitely recommend doing way more.

    • @GloriasPlants
      @GloriasPlants 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the tip! I’ve learned that mealies don’t usually kill my plants so I’m not too concerned but they sure are annoying!

  • @kaylastahlbaum7265
    @kaylastahlbaum7265 3 месяца назад

    I've recently discovered even 99% alcohol will not fully kill a mealy. I use a fillable paint pen with alcohol to remove them and then wipe on paper towel. I watched with my own eyes a mealy go brown, not move for 30 minutes and then start to crawl across the paper towel! If you find they're coming back/unable to get rid of them, that would be my guess as to why! Hope the cuttings root well for you! 🌿🌱

    • @CorpseBride64

      I did wipe each individual one as well but figured that is not very fun to watch so I cut most of those clips out. Even if they come back I’m not too concerned since a lot of my hoyas have mealies anyway and they’re still surviving. Just occasionally they cause damage. I find when I had thrips those would kill my plants very quickly! So thank goodness I’m free from thrips

    Love the compacta. I hesitate to purchase because of pests but I bought a small one and cut it up to root to make a somewhat fuller pot, it's a long term plan 🤣. Well, a friend of mine had given me her Joya coronos and it was just all leaves and it was just a very viny flowing vines over the side of the pot very pretty. I took it to my mom's house because I didn't have anywhere to take it at the time. And it was in her plant room, which it's it. Started blooming like crazy and my friend said she never got it to Bloom once well, it started blooming like crazy in the plant room. Well, one problem happened is somehow my mom got aphids and those aphids. Killed my plant and I only have have a little bit left of it. And so now I'm trying to regrow it back to its original splendor which is probably going to take asked me forever, but I did notice that some leaves are starting to grow now. Finally and I was very disappointed to find out when my mom wouldn't tell me the truth. When I kept telling her I wanted to bring my plant home and she kept trying to put me off and put me off and pretty soon. I found out she had almost killed my plant with these aphids because they don't pay attention to their plants. And it had completely covered this huge gigantic. We're talking about the the vines. On this were like 3 to. 5 foot, long full of vines and flowers. And if it's literally killed whole entire plant. And so that means they were on there for a bit. And I was very upset about that. So I want to go. Buy me a new plant and try to get one. That's a bit bigger. That'll maybe start flowering for me. Cause I don't know how long it's gonna take this one to flower.

    Me too, I found that hoyas are definitely easier to bring back from the brink of death. I love mr bobo’s deeper short meows its quite cute. For mealies on your crassipetiolata definitely recommend removing all the soil and treating it with 77% rubbing alcohol. I did this for one of my pubicalyx as I was fed up of doing many rounds of treatment. I literally removed all the soil and laid the big plant on the bathtub and sprayed everywhere including the roots incase of root mealies as they can travel upwards too. I did 3 round of spray after letting each round dry up. Used different pot and fresh soil mix and waited till the leaves were dry to place it back on the window. I also dont water on the same day of repot like succulent, I just water the next day due to root breakage meaning more likely for rot. Hopefully your hoya is free of mealy soon so other do not get infested too, I of course went the extreme method after multiple failures. Oh yeah, that hoya has been *knock on the wood* mealy free for 2 years now 😌🥳

      Bobo is really something. He wants to be in the videos but also is a cranky one hahah ya I might need to try that method for my Hoya! It gets so annoying to constantly treat but also so much effort to remove all the soil. Decisions decisions
